About Jehovah-jireh Baby Bank
A London charity built on a simple belief: every child deserves the essentials for a safe, healthy and happy start in life.
“The Lord will provide” — and so do neighbours
Jehovah-jireh Baby Bank began with a small group of local parents who saw a growing need on their own doorstep.
Mothers were leaving hospital without a safe place for their newborn to sleep. Families were washing the same few sleepsuits every night. Toddlers were growing out of shoes with nothing to replace them. At the same time, other families had cupboards full of outgrown clothes and equipment in perfect condition.
We set out to connect the two. What started as a few boxes of baby clothes has grown into an organised baby bank in the heart of Southwark, with a stockroom, a volunteer team and partnerships with local health and social care professionals. In 2025 we became a registered charity with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (No. 1214509), strengthening our governance so we can serve more families, well.
Our Mission
To relieve the hardship of families with babies and young children by providing free, safe and good-quality clothing, equipment and essentials — delivered through trusted referral partners, with dignity and respect.
Our Vision
A London where every baby goes home to a safe place to sleep, clean clothes to wear and parents who feel supported — regardless of their circumstances.
Why baby banks matter
Rising living costs mean more families are struggling to afford the basics for their children. The early years matter most — and that is where we focus.
Safe sleep
A cot or Moses basket with a new, well-fitting mattress is one of the most important things a newborn needs. Too many babies still lack one.
Everyday essentials
Nappies, wipes and formula are recurring costs. For families on low incomes, they can take a large share of the weekly budget.
Wellbeing
Material hardship adds stress during the early years. Practical help gives parents breathing space to focus on bonding with their child.
The principles we live by
Dignity first
Families are never asked to “prove” their poverty to us. We trust our referral partners and treat every person with respect.
Child-centred
Every decision is guided by what is best and safest for the baby or child we are supporting.
Quality & safety
Every item is checked. We follow safe-sleep guidance and never pass on second-hand mattresses or car seats.
Inclusion
We support families of every background, faith and culture, without discrimination of any kind.
Partnership
We work hand in hand with the NHS, local authorities and community groups to reach families early.
Sustainability
Giving good baby items a second life reduces waste and helps our planet for the next generation.
Milestones along the way
A kitchen-table idea
Local parents start collecting outgrown baby clothes and passing them to families referred by a community midwife.
Our first stockroom
With support from the community we move into a dedicated space, install shelving and begin preparing personalised bundles.
Registered charity status
Jehovah-jireh Baby Bank is registered with the Charity Commission (No. 1214509), with a board of trustees overseeing our work.
New programmes
We launch maternity hospital bags, children's activity packs and a festive gift programme with local partners.
Accountable, transparent and well-run
Jehovah-jireh Baby Bank is governed by a volunteer board of trustees who bring experience in health, education, finance and community work. Our trustees meet regularly to oversee our strategy, finances, safeguarding and risk.
